Naked foundations...

On my walk this morning I acually brough my camera. This always makes me smile.

I noticed this new  trend ... naked foundations . This one not quite naked , three box and a few Heuchera. This was a charmingly planted garden with two lovingly espaliered camilla wrapped flat against the corners of the front window. I guess the house painters convinced the new owners  to rip everything out.

Then this house ...  completely naked. Just to paint the window frames ? I'm not liking this trend at all.

One day I'm going to dig this sad Musa up and take it home. Can you believe someone planted it on a dry slope, It's been there at least three years , it's hardly grown.

More naked foundations, such a nice looking house. I can see an atempt at growing tomatoes or something in the...drive

Sort of a rant post, but I've got it out of my system .

  1. Whenever I see neglected spaces like that...which is EVERYWHERE I look, I just want to plant something there...anything...they obviously don't care!

  2. Scott, I only brought camera out to take a pic of the " Life begins in the garden " sign. Then I saw Those gardens striped to nothing, I'm waiting to see if they replace anything or just leave it so Bare !

  3. I winced at the ripped out espaliered camellias. How sad. And I imagine vegetable gardens in all the hell strips that I walk by in my neighborhood. We are the lucky ones who can see the beauty in growing a garden.

  4. Yes please take your camera out more often! I'm kind of in love with that first house, the white brick one...

    1. The White House is very sweet, I went in for an estate sale a few years ago. I loved it and wish I had met the ex teacher who had lived there for years. I bought an old volume of ' Sherlock Holmes' from her collection.
I just hope the newest owners do something interesting with the garden . They seem to be doing some major pulling out from the interior ?

    1. Heather, This home owner is the worst offender. It is another lovely house spoiled by having everything just ripped out . It looks so NAKED ! They have been there long enough to plant a few things., other than a ugly ring of violets around the one tree left and those TOMATOES !

  6. We must do something about this public nudity thing now! Unfortunately, these days many people don't want gardens or yards to tend. Many new developments have little or no outdoor space at all. Sad little musa:(

    1. Too right Peter, I hate it , spoils my walk to see all those fountains unclothed!

  7. Perhaps they are just clearing the decks to make way for something wonderful?

  8. Well, it was a nice "rant." I agree though. What's up with all of this simplification? Can we say, BORING? I do kind of like that first white/cream house though. The lighter paint makes a big difference, compared to the darker houses you also post. And, being a lover of all things rust, (i.e "Lust for Rust) I really dig that last photo. Very cool indeed.
