I've got my garden back...

So … this is what a garden looks like after a week of being blanketed with ten inches of snow. The big grasses are all truly having a "bad hair day" .

To be honest the garden always looks pretty scrappy this time of year , with perennials   getting knocked about every which way.

I  did go out when the sun came out and chopped at a few things, just to clear the path  a bit.  I  left  all the cuttings on the ground . I think next month I'll start really cutting back and clearing up. Before the early bulbs start poking though.

I wonder if I should lift that ice sheet from the fish tank ?

My favorite plant at the moment ….The Wintergold  Mugo Pine  !

Another look at the January garden

Things have changed a bit from yesterdays post !

So much snow cover , I 'm having trouble remembering ….what is under there.  Oh yes Bamboo ! The drooping cable is more worrying .

Arctostaphylos before I  swished it with the broom .

Not worried so much about the grasses and perennials , but all the big heavy shrubs along the fence…now where are they. I've been darting in and out , as I suddenly remember : Cistus 'Alma '  Rosemary and  Pittosporum 'tall and tough'  … lets hope so.

Completely bent to the ground Eucalyptus camphora  .

The little shed looks quite sweet ! Haven't checked on my Bonzai  collection sitting on the tree stump yet.

I think that's Saccharum ravennae  , maybe it will pop up again .

The Eucayptus after a little brush up. It did die back the first year I planted it , so I'm hopeful for recovery !

January in the garden...

I didn't get around to photographing any of the lovely snowy scenes after this weekends  snow  / freezing rain storm. Actually there wasn't a whole lot of snow this time around.
I did have a wander  around today .  No deaths so far …..mostly just blackened  mush !

I don't mind the mush at all , it seems to disappear quickly and hopefully enriches my sandy soil.

The shade garden seems to be tidying itself up nicely !  I  mostly left it all to collapse after the summer. .

The front garden will take a bit of work ! Last year went over the whole lot with the mulch mower in February. Till then I'm just going to enjoy the mess !
