August in bloom...

After seeing the first (Peter's) Bloom day posts, I rushed out this morning to take some photos...I'd forgotten!   It's been so hot and dry , yesterday I had the sprinklers on all day and then a brief shower and overcast skies...things were looking a bit fresher , still lots of scorched  leaves , so many plants to move ...again!
But at the side of the house a shady area , with plants that I spoil with plenty of water! And here a favorite Vitex agnus -castus 'silver spires' not for the shade, but it seems happy enough.

Such an easy small tree/shrub, with lovely autumn color.

The rose... so perfect in late summer

A new plant and first bloom, Alstroemeria psittacina 'variegata'

Another first bloom, this one Kirengeshoma palmata

Nigelia African Bride

Rainbow loveliness

Achillea 'paprika ' living dangerously under the Eryngium

The 'Black wizard' with Sedum xenox yellow

Helenium 'Moerhelm beauty' in full bloom

Japanese anemones surrounded by blooming parsley

A new Crocosmia " Emily McKenzie'

And lastly a trio of selfseeders , Nicotiana, Ammii and Cosmos.

  1. the Ammii wonderful! Just wondering about the Sedum 'Xenox' big does it get...I keep seeing contradictory info.

    1. Scott, Mine is about 2'x2' , I've had it for about three years now. It keeps it's shape without the "Chelsea chop" . I'm just trying out 'Madrona' , I know you're a fan .

  2. Your garden looks beautiful! So many different blooms. I added a Alstroemeria psittacina 'variegata' to my garden this year too. Did you pick yours up at Xera?

    1. Laura, Yes , I did get it from Xera and a few other things !

  3. I love that Nigella. Does it seed as profusely as the more common one (which I eventually banned from the garden)? And that dahlia! We may need to do some trading.

    1. Ricki, The Nigella is new to me this year, I'll let you know next summer how it self seeds. I do have plenty of seed left , if you what any. The Dahlia is from Freddie's , As are all my Dahlias , usually on discount !

    2. I was just going to ask for some of those seeds! I love that nigella. You have so many wonderful, unusual blooms. I love your garden so much!
