May in the garden.

A mini heat wave  last week , has got things springing upwards and outwards in the garden .   After  rushing around weeding , digging , splitting and everything else. It was a treat to just  sit  and enjoy, too hot  to plant anything out . I did have a few moments of inspiration , which I couldn't ignore ; and had to make a few tweaks , so a few sad wilted ones around for a few days.

Here we are at the end of March , Mickey enjoying all the open space.

My shady patch , which is looking much fuller than a few weeks ago. Most of the Platts black brass buttons ground cover that has taken years to cover the pathway, seems to have been killed this winter.  So , the stepping stones were put back in…thank you Philip. At least it's not such a wide path these days , I've been squeezing the planting in.

Here in March , no Brass buttons, so I threw the steps back in .  Than dug up the Black mondo grass clumps and planted them along the path.

This was last spring , a carpet of Brass buttons …oh well.

  1. What a bummer that the brass buttons died. There's always something that needs redoing or tweaking.

  2. But what is baffling me is- what on earth are brass buttons? I see your garden is getting going much later this year after your long cold winter.

    1. Chloris, It's Leptinella x 'Platt's Black' a tiny fern like ground cover …very nice it was.

  3. Oh, little brass buttons. I loved them last year. Well, the upside to the predicted El Nino year ahead are mild winter temps for us. I like the black mondo grass lining the walk way :)

  5. Your pathway is very pretty even without the brass buttons and the chairs under the umbrella look inviting. I agree, though, I can't sit for very long without spying something that calls out to be tweaked.

    1. Ricki, I've just been patching bits that have survived . The buttons grow fast and the path gets narrower every year.

  6. I'm sorry your Brass Buttons. However, I can see you've done your magic. I really like the stepping stones and your plantings along the edges. Gardens never stay one way very long. It's nice to have the photographs to refer back to though, isn't it?
