Refuse to bloom ...that is . Fritillaria 'persica' has been in the garden for several years ,always looks promising with beautiful healthy foliage. I know it's planted as it should , full sun, good drainage, but still it refuses me those dark purple blooms. |
I have the same problem with 'Persica'. I've moved it around several times, hoping to find a spot it likes. Maybe those stunning deep purple-black spires are not to be.
ReplyDeleteRicki, You could be right, though I'm going to remain hopeful that one day the prefect weather conditions will convince them to bloom.
DeleteOh, what a bummer that your dogtooth lily refuses to bloom. At least you get foliage, so maybe one day when it decides it is old enough, it will flower for you. I tried planting it one year, and nothing ever came up. I have a couple of other different Erythroniums, which do flower, so I don't feel so bad.
ReplyDeleteAlison, Thankfully I have another one ' Pagoda' that happily blooms every year , or I would be miffed !
DeleteLast weekend I visited Northwest Garden Nursery in Eugene. I fell hard for the Fritillaria 'persica' foliage in the garden, so beautiful! I could see their were flower buds just about to emerge. While I think the foliage would be enough for me I do have to admit the flowers are pretty fabulous too...
ReplyDeleteLori, I 'm thinking of getting more 'persica' bulbs later this year, glutton for punishment !
DeleteI planted persica this fall--it sounds like I shouldn't be expecting any blooms. :(
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating! The foliage is gorgeous though.
