My first nursery visit this year . Well … it was a beautiful frosty, dry, sunny Sunday morning . Perfect for a drive to Sauvie island and Cistus nursery. Of course I didn't bring my camera along or the dogs . Just my 20i4 plant wish list. which I duly handed to first person(staff) I came upon This is a list of plants I'd made while reading my new Margery Fish book' Carefree gardening ' a christmas present. Though there wasn't much out on display, most things neatly tucked snuggly undercover . I did get two things from my list: Lithocarpus edulis , which I love , but didn't take note that it is actually a TREE , a small one at 10 ft or so it says. An adorable Camellia forestii with tiny pink buds already looking to open. When I got home , I realized these two plants were not from Margery Fish's book at all. I don't know how they came to be on my list ! |
Brr. It was frosty here this morning too. I can't remember the last time I was at a nursery.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was frosty , but I get around better in the dry/ sunny/ freezing , not so well in damp/ grey !
DeleteIt was a beautiful frosty morning! I failed to snap up some pics due to prior commitments (I mean, hello, walking to the neighborhood coffee shop with a friend takes priority ;) I'm so impressed you have a plant list already compiled! I need to do this.
ReplyDeleteI sat reading and writing down interesting sounding plants, it didn't take long to have a quite long list for this year !
DeleteBeautiful frost, Linda! I Haven't bought anything recently...but I have a short list ready for spring projects :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful but deadly frost I'm afraid ,Scott :(
DeleteI feel like a slacker with my "list" of just two plants! I know I will find all sorts of wonderful things at the nurseries, so I'm not overly worried
ReplyDeleteYou'll be surprised how quick the list grows this time of year !
DeleteI love trying to figure out how plants ended up on my "to buy" list . . . and just where was I going to plant it?
ReplyDeleteExactly Heather…were will I plant all the trees
DeleteMy list is long, but items are crossed off mostly by accident as there is always some new siren luring me away from appointed tasks. Love your frosty photos.
