A key ring and a hole punch ….

I  have had enough of rummaging through my plastic bags of plant tags . I've tried putting them in a sort of order , with a bag for each year. A bag for grasses , a bag for  spikes  and succulents . A bag for perennials , a bag for  odds and ends .Enough of this , I say.  So, I  did several different searches on line for " How to organize plant tags" Several gardeners used photo albums with sleeves to store everything ...nice and neat, but I'm not keen on a big fat photo album, I 'd end up with soil and  gritty bits all in the sleeves . so , no good . Many had my sandwich bag system. They seemed just as fed up as I am, At last Someone had a simple idea . Perfect…only to punch a hole and through a keyring you go.

  2. Love this. I'm just wondering how you have those three keyrings organized. Are all those Xera plants from one particular bed or area, or are they together because they're all the same size? I really need to get mine sorted.

    1. I did organize them by size , the Cistus and Xera tags fit together nicely . I like that they fan out evenly . I did them in Alphabetical order . These are just from last year , so I may have to reorganize them ….again . My hand is sore from punching.

  3. I'm using an old 4x6 long file box organized by botanical name but I like your idea better. So simple, effective and everything is visible! Thanks for sharing this, I might steal your idea! We use those rings in various sizes at work all the time but I never thought of this application.

  4. So what's your sorting system. I see a Xera ring, and lots of Cistus tags but exactly how do you have them organized?

    1. Lori. I got so exciting at the idea , that I didn't think about organizing them, just did them in Alphabetical order by size/ nursery. This is just last years tags. I need to think it through ...

  6. My tags are all stuffed into a flower pot...mostly for the satisfaction of seeing what a glut of plants has made it into the garden. My filing system is probably too complicated for any sane person. I'll be interested to know how well this works for you. It sure is neat looking (and I mean that in both senses of the word).
I'm loving the new look of your blog. The colors are super.

  7. Philip's idea is genius! Too cool. I tape my ornamental tags into a notebook with a picture of the bed. But, I will definitely do this with my vegetable garden tags! Thanks for sharing.
