This is a sweet picture! I love the idea of a nice small town celebration with a parade and races, community events, family picnics, and a fireworks display. The urban noise fest with illegal fireworks being set off on every corner & the inevitable stories of people starting fires, loosing a hand or their eyesight and M80's being thrown from cars is a little tiresome! Exactly how this major disturbance of the peace celebrates independence is beyond me.
The noise started here last night too. It doesn't bother our kitties, but it bothers me! One advantage when we lived in Massachusetts was that fireworks are illegal at all times, unless handled by a licensed company that does all the big fireworks displays. We never had people setting them off weeks ahead of time, and sometimes continuing till August, although we did occasionally have idiots blowing off hands.
Noise day indeed! Last night was relatively calm, no doubt we'll pay for it tonight as well as on through the weekend. Lila doesn't like the noise either, thankfully our guest bed is in the basement and it's a bit quieter down there.
lori, It's Mickey that gets so worked up , Rosie is a little trooper. I 've stuffed the windows in the basement with honey comb cardboard to dampen the noise as we sleep in the basement ...ha !
